Lake Manyara National Park

Nestled at the base of the sheer 600-meter-high Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park is a compact jewel overflowing with diverse ecosystems. As you enter, you are immediately enveloped by a lush groundwater forest fed by freshwater springs, where baboon troops forage beneath giant mahogany trees and blue monkeys swing through the canopy.

As the forest clears, the landscape opens into sweeping floodplains surrounding the shimmering alkaline expanse of Lake Manyara itself. Here, thousands of flamingos gather in soft pink ribbons along the water’s edge alongside pelicans and storks. Lake Manyara is world-famous for its legendary tree-climbing lions, who seek refuge from heat in acacia branches, as well as dense populations of elephants, giraffes, and hippos wallowing in shallow pools.
